Well, sorry to say, but there is no proven way to absolutely avoid LPs, because one thing that may work for one person, may get the other person the perfectly opposite result ; guess one ingredient is always random - LUCK!

- Slow and steady wins the race! Yes, be the tortoise in the marathon against LP! Study regularly. Don't leave too much for the end. The best thing about LUMS for me is that there is not tension of the exams, 'cause not much remains till then!
- Talk now, think later! is the motto to stick to! I have seen people along with me that they start thinking on an argument but the discussion is so fast that by the time they reach an answer, the class has moved on! In the first semester (at least 1st semester), try to speak your mind as quickly as possible. With practice, you'll learn to think quick as well
- The best form of defense is offense! You need to defend yourself from LPs, so be aggressive upfront! Go for CPs right from the word go!
- Lastly, study hard but study smart! Don't want no donkeys you see!

Well MMJ I got admission in 2011 MBA class.Your blogs are really helpful I must say.Just have few questions hope you will answer;
1. Is there any evaluation of SOP? How does it effect the GPA if at all?
2. How much weightage is given to final exam,quiz,assignment,class tests in determination of grades and gpa?
3. What are the grades at U,LP,HP etc

1- SOP does not have any effect on the GPA but there is an evaluation as per communicated by the management ... its only PASS/FAIL on an absolute scale ... if you fail ... the committee may just separate you! although its very very rare!
2- the weights vary ... its upon the faculty member to decide about the components of grade and the weight of each component
3- LUMS MBA has a relative grading system ... its like ... the class is sorted w.r.t to the marks obtained in descending order ... some top 10-15% of the people are given HP (High Pass or something of that sort) bottom 10-15% are given LP (Low Pass) and in the middle .. P+, P, P-
U is absolute lowest and D is absolute highest. They are very rare! You'll get to know more once u r here :) chill till then!!!

Well ... SOP ... you might need to go through my article on SOP (Sleepless, Overloaded Perdition) ... it will give you a very fair idea!
Anyways ... as a summary ... you should expect
1- Sleepless Nights (if u sleep 3-4 hours during the peak times ... consider yourself extremely lucky)
2- Lots of assignments (brute force would hardly work here ... going for the complete assignment may just work ... but really not the ideal way to go ... you'll figure it out)
3- Keep thinking ... you have to find ways to work more efficiently ... like during SOPs ... power nap is the way to go!
As for how to study ... you have to sharpen your memory, at first! this helps a lot ... triple your reading speed ... don't read one word at a time ... but a line at a time, that too at first! you'll learn this via practice! It's very scientific!

will there be tests?? assignments or wat?? can you please specify...Is it any way possible that one can start the hard work from today?? or watever they give u is unexpected?? do we need to buy books??
- Test ... well ... quizzes are expected ... but nothing to fear
- Assignments are usually given in bulk :P nothing you can do about it now :)
- Man ... you are already freaking out ... relax ... let it come ... the best you can do is party right now ... because a month into LUMS MBA ... it is expected to be tough ... after a month, it's up to you! The sooner you get used to it ... the better ...
- you don't need to buy any books or study material ... it is all incorporated in the fee plan ... if you need more (read: if you are crazy enough to need more) ... then there is a library ... :)
